The Trip West

I left Sandusky, Ohio on Sunday Sept 11 and headed west. I made it to Chicago at about 3pm and decided to stop and have a look around. As soon as I opened my door I realized it was very hot, the temperature was 95 degrees and with the humidex it was over 100. I went to let Tara out and she would not get out of the truck, she is smarter than me. I had a look around but did not stay in Chicago too long as it was very hot. I continued on to Wisconsin and stopped for the night at Eau Claire at a rest stop. It was so hot I had to turn on the Air Conditioning several times throughout the night to stifle the heat.

Monday drove on to Minnesota and stopped in St Joesph where there is a beautiful old church and the Saint Benedict’s Monastery. As it was the on the trip east it was pouring when I drove through Minnesota. The skies at this time were getting black so I decided to move on as I know this is Tornado country. I stopped when I reached Fergus Falls, Minnesota and was listening to the radio as I ate my lunch and there was tornado warnings for all the counties I had just passed through. We moved on and continued to North Dakota where we stopped in Grand Forks for dinner and then I decided since we were so close to the Canadian border we would keep going and head to Winnipeg. The rain continued and I decided to continue until I got to Portage La Prairie, Manitoba where we stayed for night. I woke up about 3am and was freezing, what a difference it was from the night before.

Headed for Edmonton on Tuesday and figured out that because of the time change and how far we had gone on Monday we would make it to Edmonton earlier than expected. We drove through Saskatchewan and listened to the farm reports on the Radio (No Kidding). Made it to Edmonton about 9pm which was a day earlier than I had expected. I have family in Edmonton and stayed with my Aunt Pauline.
