Also there is so much crap being made into movies that I think they need some sure fire movies to pay for the crap they make. In most cases it is a lazy attempt at a money grab. The writing, acting and directing by and large cannot measure up to the original. There are a few times when the update is better than the original but these are rare. Add to that the regular people who never saw the original and will be attracted by "the buzz" and ads, and you have a higher turnout than for something original and untried. More often than not, the originals are better. I really think Hollywood's golden days are over - hopefully there will be some sort of renaissance. Today's actors, actresses can't hold a candle to some of the greats. There are a couple, though, who ARE incredible - Denzel's certainly one of 'em. You know, I agree with you.
