That is so true! I prefer old movies, they were original and need no special hi tech effects to move the audience in tremendous ways. luv your observations.

I think they are afraid to try new things as movies are such big business, they need to get back to making movies at a reasonable cost so the investmnt is not so bad if they are a public failure. Also there is so much crap being made into movies that I think they need some sure fire movies to pay for the crap they make.

I agree that Hollywood likes the formula because it is easy and they don't have to put their necks on the line by floating new original stories. In most cases it is a lazy attempt at a money grab. The writing, acting and directing by and large cannot measure up to the original. There are a few times when the update is better than the original but these are rare.

The idea of a remake is appealing to Hollywood because there's a built-in audience: those that saw the original movie and want to see what can be done with the story using updated special effects and today's actors. Add to that the regular people who never saw the original and will be attracted by "the buzz" and ads, and you have a higher turnout than for something original and untried.

Ooooh, you are so right! It makes me wonder about the writers and directors these days. Are they so brain dead they can't come up with anything new.

Happy BlogMad surfing and thanks for commenting at my blog. You have a great one here. I love the random photo. :-)

You know, I agree with you. More often than not, the originals are better. I really think Hollywood's golden days are over - hopefully there will be some sort of renaissance. Today's actors, actresses can't hold a candle to some of the greats. There are a couple, though, who ARE incredible - Denzel's certainly one of 'em.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that Hollywood is full of lazy, 'get rich quick', money-grabbing cretins. If you see anything vaguely original coming out of a major Hollywood studio, it probably slipped through the net by mistake.
