My Mom

May 14, 2006 | Category: Personal

Today I was thinking about my Mom and how much I miss her. I remembered something which at the time touched my heart but as I thought about it today it really hit me how special it was for her.

My Mom passed away in September of 2001 after being ill for 18 months with lung cancer. My Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2000. During the 18 months of her illness my mother would receive snail mail messages which consisted of jokes, some naughty and some nice. Also some inspirational stories and cute pictures were sent to her. All of these were signed “Your Secret Admirer”, at first I suspected who this person was and as the mail continued to arrive every few weeks I pretty much knew who was sending this stuff to my Mom. My Mom would ask me who it was and I could honestly say I did not really know. Of course I kinda knew from the type of stuff being sent that it was a good friend Tracy, whom we had met through our club the Knights of Nee (used to be my paintball group but we became a social club). As I said these notes continued to arrive right up to my Mom’s death in September 0f 2001. Tracy who was the one sending these messages to my Mom would not admiit it even when she came to visit she maintained her “innocence”.

At my Mom’s funeral Tracy had written something she wanted to read about my Mom. Tracy has a wicked sense of humor and I mean wicked as in naughty, sinful and impish. So having not seen what she had written I was not sure what to expect. But I did know one thing for sure Tracy loved my Mom so whatever she had to say would be good and memorable. She did not disappoint, even I who was in heavy grief had a few chuckles at what she had to say. Below is the Text of what she said….

OUR CARETAKER, RENA JONES

Just a little rhyme about someone I truly miss
Bear with me for telling you something so personal as this….

Our little Rena Jones, so cheeky and sweet
An inspiration to all and for all a wonderful treat.

So generous of heart soul and mind
So selfless an individual is hard to find.

But don’t get me wrong, she would not take any guff
To many a strong Knight, she has given a good cuff.

In fact, she’s often taken ME down to the mat
For saying Tara her dog, is really a rat.

A ‘wicked’ girl she called me when I put her to the test
Always with a smile because I knew…she liked me the best.

But you see she made every one of us feel special that was her gift
So let’s pass it along and give someone else that special lift.

Imagine the surprise now Tom and Rena have reunited
When they turned down their wings having already been knighted?

Now who’s the ‘wicked’ one, Rena my friend?
I learned from the best and my love to you I send.

All joking aside, Rena’s Caretaking days are now done
Of which I benefited greatly, my thanks to Anthony, her son.

A Secret Admirer, NEE!
