Leading Man!

Humphrey Bogart
You scored 42% Tough, 14% Roguish, 33% Friendly, and 9% Charming!
You’re the original man of honor, rough and tough but willing to stick your neck out when you need to, despite what you might say to the contrary. You’re a complex character full of spit and vinegar, but with a soft heart and a tender streak that you try to hide. There’s usually a complicated dame in the picture, someone who sees the real you behind all the tough talk and can dish it out as well as you can. You’re not easy to get next to, but when you find the right partner, you’re caring and loyal to a fault. A big fault. But you take it on the chin and move on, nursing your pain inside and maintaining your armor…until the next dame walks in. Or possibly the same dame, and of all the gin joints in all the world, it had to be yours. Co-stars include Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall, hot chicks with problems.

I went to the Season opening game on Thursday not really sure what to expect but I figured it would be something of a spectacle as this league is a big step up on the recently departed BCjHL Chilliwack Chiefs. With more money involved and more exposure including a live broadcast on Shaw TV I guess I was expecting a big show of some sort.

I arrived at 6pm for a scheduled 7pm game start and wandered around the rink waiting patiently for the festivities to start. As the start time grew close I was surprised to see lots of people still wandering and not really seeing anything happening to indicate that some sort of ceremony was going to take place. About 5 minutes to seven an announcement was made indicating all the lights in the building would be turned out at 7pm. So I proceeded to my Standing room place to prepare to watch the show. At 7pm the lights dropped and the TV cameras came on to show the Shaw broadcast team along with the Bruins Play by Play team. This was shown on the Scoreboard with the sound a little tough to understand making it sound like jumble of unintelligible sounds. This went on for 10 minutes , then 20 minutes and the crowd was growing restless with sporadic cheering. Finally after almost 40 minutes of waiting in the dark trying to understand what was being broadcast without any luck, four fireworks rockets were set off which I guess was designed to wake up the fans. With this the Player introductions began, each Chilliwack Player was introduced and they skated onto the ice through what I thought was supposed to be a fireworks light bar to light up their entrance. This did not to work as planned and only after 7 players had entered did the light bar finally go off and then only for two players. Also during the this process the scoreboard was displaying a Bruins logo and even though there were TV cameras on the ice the clock remained dark until almost three quarters of the team had been introduced then suddenly the picture was broadcast for all to see. After all the players were introduced the opponents for the evening the Kelowna Rockets hit the ice and we had the Ceremonial First Puck drop and a series of sparklers which were located around the top of the glass were fired off with only half of the sparklers going off. Finally after taking about 5 minutes with ladders all over the ice to take down sparklers and clean up the ice the game began. Don’t get me wrong I am not complaining it is just that I figured this would be a little more professionally put together and a little bit smoother.

The game itself was a good back and forth affair with Chilliwack scoring first and taking a 3-0 lead into the third period. While Kelowna did break the shutout bid of Alex Archibald with a goal midway through the third period. The style and pace of the game was excellent making it well worth attending to see the game. With the excitement with which this team plays it will be well worth it to see more games this season whether the Bruins win or not it will be a good brand of hockey.

Either way you put it they are the spokesbeavers for Bell products in Canada. The commercials started out previous to the Winter Olympics and have continued with some new commercials recently. While I am not a big fan of advertising I think that Bell has hit on a simple but brilliant commercial idea. The two beavers who live together get into all kinds of hi-jinks with the different Bell products promoted with a high degree of levity. The commercials are well put together and are very memorable.

Check it Out!

It is hard to believe it has been 5 years since my mother passed away. I am not sure where the time has gone or what I have accomplished since that time. I have mixed emotions and I guess that is accentuated by the fact that I am alone and unemployed giving me too much time to think and very little else to think about. I am never sure how I am going to feel as these dates approach but as I think about it over the past couple of years I had so much to keep me busy with work and a friend that I did not have too much time to dwell. So I guess that is why the past month has been so difficult for me with the anniversary of my Dad’s passing in August and now this date.

I went to a preseason Chilliwack Bruins game last night against the Kamloops Blazers. As it was a preseason game the teams were not playing their final rosters. The game was a spirited affair with lots of offensive action from Chilliwack and hard hitting action from both teams. The fireworks began in the second period with a couple of scraps including one which saw 1 Chilliwack and 1 Kamloops player ejected and 8 more receiving ten minute misconducts making the benches look a little bare.

The action continued right till the end of the third period with Chilliwack besting Kamloops 6-4. The overall tempo was quick and with the exception of lots of penalties for interference, hooking and holding and of course the occasional fight tthe game maintained a good flow. The players are getting used to the enforcement of the rules such as was seen last year in the NHL. It reminded me of the NHL games I attended early last season and how the penalties seemed to be endless. As the season continues and the players adjust the penalties will allow the games to speed up as has happened with the NHL games.

A few players that stood out and I will continue to watch (if they stick around) include Oscar Moller from Sweden and Josh Aspenlind both of whom played a fast pitched exciting game. As the team comes together I think this will be an exciting team to watch. More to come.

Doggie Tales….Road Trip

I went for a little road trip yesterday…..well any trip is a road trip to me because I am so small that any trip is a big adventure. Also after each trip my daddy gives me a treat. I like treats but I wish I did not have to do sooo much work to get a treat. I am cute enough that I should just get a treat don’t you think so.

Oh yaa the trip well my Daddy let me out and I headed out to the hedge while he sat on the step. Then I went around the hedge and smelled something really neat. So I followed the smell and almost fell into Murray’s driveway, I keep forgeting that their is a big drop from the lawn. Oh well. Then I smelled something really good and headed across the street and headed for the hedge and then around the hedge and headed over to the big metal pole mmmmm someone did dodo here, I don’t recognize them. Then into the flowers and across to the big steel box where I smelled more neat stuff. Now I was heading to thin pole on the corner when I thought I heard my name. Naw it could not be my name hey what was that roaring past? Oh Oh here comes Daddy and he is stamping his feet I think he is looking for something. He is heading for me I think he wants to give me a treat. Nope he is shaking his finger at me and saying “Front Door” I guess I have to go in to get my treat.

Wow I need a nap that was a big trip and I got to smell lots of neat smells and some not so neat smells. My Daddy is still walking around the house talking to himself. I think he is mad bacause he told me I had to stay in my bed. That is ok cause I need a nap. Oh but I did get a treat after I boxed with my Daddy.

Pet Lifeline

I found this service and decided to check it out. As I live alone with little outside contact I have always feared what would happen to my Dog Tara if something happened to me. Pet Lifeline is like Medic Alert, you get a Wallet Card and Key Chain Tags which tells Emergency workers you have a pet at home. The cards contains a toll-free number to a call center which has access to information you provide about a primary and if necessary secondary guardian who the call center will contact to ensure you pet is not left alone for an extended period.

This is a great service for all animal owners and is something which alleviates a lot of anxiety for me. The service is well worth the $2O for a year for piece of mind.

Now I just have to figure out who I will get to look after my baby.

What is the Deal!

I have an appreciation for the female form so when a nice looking lady passes me I will have a look. With the hot weather ladies tend to wear less forcing me to appreciate the female form in all its beauty. Even though I am subtle when I look some ladies will notice and smile I am presuming in appreciation. I have even been asked if I like what I see and of course I answer yes with a smile. Then sometimes you get a dirty look and on a rare occasions some harsh words are said.

With this in mind I have noticed a growing trend for shapely ladies to wear clothes with words written across the area which covers the ladies bottoms. So you take an attractive lady, add in clothing with writing across the buttocks such as ‘Princess’ ‘Cutie’ or ‘Delicious’ and you are forced to look. Your eyes are automatically drawn to the words and it takes longer than a quick glance to read them. This happened to me the other day and the young lady smiled an appreciative and knowing smile that her message was being read by me. I gave her a friendly smile and turned to continue on my way when this guy walks past me and glares at me. I was a little confused until I saw him approach the friendly young woman and say very loudly that some people have no class leering at his girlfriend and he should go do something about it. Obviously meant for me I turned and the young woman had an embarrassed look on her face so I smiled a reassuring smile at her and she smiled back. I guess the idiot boyfriend was too stupid to understand that someone smiling at his girlfriend was not a threat to him. (But then again she could do better than that moron.) Especially since she was wearing pants that said ‘Cutie’ on the butt it is asking someone to look and show appreciation.

I can appreciate that a woman wants to wear something which is playful and flirtatious but do not get hurt when someone shows some interest and maybe flirts a bit with you. What really gets me going is a woman who take offense when you look at her butt when she is advertising “Look at My Butt” with whatever text is written there. Come on if you are that insecure and immature then wear something which is not flirtatious and will not have anyone look at you. As for the guys that claim to be the boyfriends of the women, Grow Up these women are not your possessions and they just want to look good for you so quite being an ass and let her have some fun, after all it is only innocent flirting.

And finally to the women who accept a friendly smile from a man with a touch of flirting and smile back, I salute you for your strength of character and your playful flirtatious nature. Thanks
