Hollywood Movie Formula AKA Product Placement

I went to see Transformers last week and while I enjoyed the action and special effects I was a little disappointed with the attempt at a viable story. Shia LaBeouf was a pleasant surprise and he brought a lot of humanity to the character and I particularly enjoyed his interactions with Bumblebee. While Megan Fox is extremely hot she adds nothing to the movie and along with Rachael Taylor are the standard eye candy that one comes to expect in all Hollywood movies.

Something I did notice was the massive product placement which was prevalent throughout the movie. This got me to thinking so I checked some of Michael Bay’s other movies and although not as in your face as in Transformers it is obvious in The Rock as well as The Island. Not a bad idea I guess as it adds to the bottom line for the movie. Still I believe it does take away from the story when jokes and dialogue are added into a movie to showcase the products. Pretty soon the commercials we see at the beginning of the movie will be interspersed throughout the movie either as part of the movie or worse as actual commercials.

Oh I do like the new Camaro. I could see myself driving one especially a convertible. We shall see.
