Confused about the Hype

Today is Blog Action Day to promote awareness of the environment. When I checked my mail today I received an invitation to participate in an online survey. The gist of the survey was whether I felt Canada was an emerging energy superpower and if so what impact does that have both on the Canadian and global economies and what impact it would have on the environment. As I answered the questions I began to think about the impact of Canada exploring the Arctic for natural resources and the impact on the environment. While I would like to see Canada be completely self sufficient when it comes to its energy needs I do not want that to occur at the cost of major damage to the environment. I guess the bottom line is we cannot have our cake and be able to eat it as well so we need to find ways to have the energy we need but not at the cost of the planet. Our changes in climate should be setting off alarm bells with everyone. This is a first step down a road that is bad news.
