Leaving on a Jet Plane

The day has arrived and there was much rejoicing Yaa Yippee Yeehaw! (That’s the rejoicing) But that is not the only exciting news, Wednesday I got a call from my doctor to meet her at the hospital on Thursday and ……..get my cast taken off. Yes you read correctly I have the pleasure to annouce I no longer have a cast and it looks like my wrist has healed quite nicely. As I was laying on the hospital gurney getting the cast cut off and as I felt the cool air hit my skin my first thought was to yell out FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!! but I did not I just thought about it. So now I get to enjoy all that Europe and Morocco have to offer without that damn cast! Stay Tuned the next broadcast will be brought to you from London!

The Cast - Day 1

Well so far I am not having fun and the aggravation from the cast has made me extremely frustrated. It takes alot to make me mad or to lose my cool but today I just lost it. I was struggling to put on my shoes and Tara was standing at the top of the stairs. She started to bark and continued to bark, the more I struggled the more her barking was getting to me. I asked her a couple of times to quiet down but she continued until I finally yelled at her and obviously scared her as she cringed when I approached her.

Tonight when I got home she did not come near me and was acting very strange. I am sure she was afraid after I yelled at her this morning. Damn cast is the bane of my existence. Ugh.

Bionic Arm…Not!

I have my new attachment and I must admit I am not a happy camper. Since I am right handed I am already getting frustrated trying to do the most mundane things which I normally take for granted. Trying to cut food, turn my keys in the door, put on my seat belt Aargh I cannot believe this has happened to me. I am just so pissed off right now I want to rip this stupid cast off my arm. All this and only 18 days till we leave.

Still Sore

Last Wednesday I had a little mishap and fell which in itself was not so bad. The problem is I put my right hand down to help break my fall. Even though my wrist was sore for a couple of days I procrastinated until today and since I was still in pain I finally went to emergency. Surprisingly got seen by the doctor very quickly and after some prodding and poking and some X-Rays, the verdict a severe sprain and a possible hairline fracture. I have to go back next week for another x-ray to see if the bone is fractured. Meanwhile they put a half cast on my arm so now I am trying to do everything left handed. I am not sure how lefties do it!

The closer we get to the trip the more I seem to have to do to get ready, clothes, bags, electronic equipment and the list goes on. On top of the electronics we need plugs and adapters for each country. Recently I have been researching Medical Insurance which is confusing to say the least. I have to make sure to inform my credit card companies, get some money exchanged….Aargh!!!! the list just goes on and on. I will be glad once we get going.

Wiggle Waggle Walk 2008

Hard to believe that another year has passed, coming up on March 8th is the Third Annual Wiggle Waggle Walk at the Maple Ridge Branch of the BC SPCA at 10235 Jackson Rd. This walk was started three years ago when eight year old Jacob Carbery decided to organize a walk to raise funds for the SPCA Biscuit Fund a very worthwhile cause which raises money to help injured animals.

Tara and I will participate again and if you want to donate to this very worthwhile cause I know a lot of animals can be helped. If you wish to join the walk Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk will commence at 11 a.m.

Another Piece of the Puzzle

As we get closer to the trip, only 55 days, not that I am counting. I keeping adding to the equipment list, I just got a 55-200mm lens to add to the toy chest. Now as I think about it I am considering getting either a monopod or tripod which needs to be stable to carry my camera and also lightweight. Now comes the dilemma, there are so many choices and I am getting sore eyes reading all the reviews and am still confused what would work best. My main concern is something compact which will hold the camera without shake. Looking for 2 lbs or less, eye height when extended and folded size under 20″ for easier packing. Chances are I will have to look at Carbon Fibre for the weight and stability but this still leaves me trying to decide whether I get a tripod or a monopod. Anyone have any suggestions? Oh my camera is the Canon Rebel XTI and my biggest lens is the Canon 17-85mm USM IS.

Suggestions please!

The Stretch Run

We are getting down to the final planning stages for the trip and have laid out our daily schedule in each place. The lists started out long but we have narrowed down the options to a manageable group. As we get closer to the magic date I am finding it harder to stay focussed on what is going on around me. Only 72 more days.

Dog Days of Winter

Normally at this time of year we are getting tired of all the rain but not this year, we are in the middle of another major storm dropping snow instead of rain. I am not sure if this is storm number 8 or 9 but I can say this is probably the most snow I have seen in a large number of years. We sometimes get 1 or 2 “snow storms” a year so this year it is unusual the amount of snow we have received and the fact that it has stayed around longer than a day. While it is nice to look at, it is horrible for driving especially with the Vancouver drivers who have no concept that they should use some caution when the conditions deteriorate. On the way home tonight I saw three SUV’s and 1 tractor trailer in the ditch, upside down.

Lately the weather on the West coast has been kinda ‘Fresh’ which translated means cold. Not that I am complaining I am kinda enjoying the change except that I am finding that in reality I am not able to enjoy the weather good, bad or otherwise. With the amount of time I have been working lately I do not really see the Sun or Rain or Snow unless it is on the way to or from work. At some point I am hoping my 12 hour days will be a little shorter so I can actually take the time to either enjoy or complain about the weather.

As I look back on the last year I cannot help but think that my life is so different than this time last year. I know it has to do with my new job and my contest win, but have I changed? I think I am the same person, a little older with a little less hair but not a different person. Possibly what has changed is how I look at things and how I try to live my life for me and live for today.

My Annual Rant: Baseball

I just do not understand how America’s pastime can be so backwards. So you have the All Star Game and Festivities and during the festivities you have a Home Run Derby where “individual” players show which “individual” player can hit the most home runs. For this event the players wear All Star uniforms which look good although their individual team uniforms makes more sense. Now we have the actual All Star Game which is a “team” event by the way and the players wear their individual team uniforms. It looks horrible and makes no sense whatsoever. I just do not understand how a major sports league can be so backwards.
